The Color of Destruction

muschiosauro This fourth LP by Rykarda Parasol is her most musically diverse to date (and my personal favorite). For the first time, 50s R&B, 60s psych, 70s flower power, 80s pop-rock and new wave burst into the dark folk horizon that dominated her previous albums, giving the sound a liveliness previously unknown and all the more startling given the stark contrast with the lyrics, which continue to be pervaded by desperate gloom. Still, cogs fit together seamlessly, and the outcome is enticing. Favorite track: Valborg's Eve.

Carsten Pieper Thanks to Lute FP for poining out, that the amazing Rykarda Parasol is on Bandcamp, too. And I whole-heartedly agree that way more people should know her/buy her stuff.
So, if you don't know her but like the calmer, melodic material of, say, P.J. Harvey or Patti Smith, give this artist a try! Favorite track: The Ruin and the Change.

about

Parasol’s fourth album combines her vintage dark folk rock storytelling with mid-century French pop and Motown influences.

"At my side the Demon writhes forever,
Swimming around me like impalpable air;
As I breathe, he burns my lungs like fever
And fills me with an eternal guilty desire."
- Destruction, Charles Baudelaire

After Perseus decapitated Medusa, he set down her head upon the riverbank and her blood mixed with the seaweed, which then turned it into coral. Though she’d had the power in life to turn men into stone, in the end man destroys her, but this is her “last word” in a sense… When one knows their fate is doomed, shall they simply accept the enveloping waves – or shall they set their sinking ship afire? Fire, water, ruins, wrecks, spring and winter, are the running themes. Our narrator, whether loved or not, has opened herself up to the world. Courage until the end.
